Reflection of the culture and standard of the Auckland Indian Association!
Welcome to the Tagore Library, a rich collection of information and data on Indian and New Zealand culture in the form of books, magazines, cds and online etc. stored in major sections of different languages like Gujarati, Hindi and English. Proud to know that Gujarati Section has got more than eighty year collection and also library stores some of the rare books in English.
Who uses this Library!
Basically this Library is being used by the teachers and students of the Gandhi Gruh Gujarati School, on Sundays (except public holidays). Parents who bring their children to this school also use this Library while their children are busy in the school. Various kinds of members of the Auckland Indian Association as well as general member of the public are welcome to sit and read at this Library (Not allowed to borrow!). This Library receives time to time bus load of students from local higher secondary schools for referring Indian culture, religion and history etc.
What time Library is opened!
Sundays (except public holidays) from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. Members are allowed to borrow books and other reading materials as per the library rules. A Library assistant will be serving at this time.
Monday to Friday (except public holidays) 11.00 am to 4.00 pm. Members and general public are welcome to sit and read (not allowed to borrow). Office Administrator will be supervising at this time.
Who borrows this collection!
Current members of the Auckland Indian Association are welcome to borrow books and other materials as per the Library rules only on SUNDAYS (except public holidays) considering as one of the services of the Association.
How to grow this collection!
Once you come across title of your interest, if you don’t find in the Library collection, you are welcome to recommend that title to procure and put it in this collection for your reading as well as public reading. There are many seniors who have large collection of books of their own at their house and think that have read and simply sitting on their shelves, donate to the Library for others reading. This Association members are generous and kind to donate books t0 the Library.
Who would like to serve at the Library or interested in getting practical experience!
Working with knowledge sources and serving the library users helps to improve the quality of a person and also gives an opportunity to dialogue with thoughtful persons. Those who would like to spare just couple of hours on Sundays may considered as a change from their routine activities are welcome to serve the Library as volunteer.
